1 General questions
Q1.1 What field of engineering is TechEditor designed for?
TechEditor is a general-purpose software that can be used in any industry that requires textual documentation or mathematical calculations. You can use this environment in structural engineering, mechanical engineering, energy, oil and gas, and other fields.
Q1.2 Can I create drawings in TechEditor like in AutoCAD or Revit?
No. In TechEditor, you develop text documents (reports) and perform engineering calculations.
2 Software versions. Installation. System requirements
Q2.1 Is there a portable version of TechEditor, CAEERO?
Yes, you can use portable versions of the software. See this category in the Dystlab Store. Installation into the operating system is not required in this case.
Q2.2 Error “Cannot save program settings to file”
Cannot create file "...\TechEditor\settings\default.tecprofile"
The program tries to save settings in a folder to which it has no access. This problem is relevant for the portable version of TechEditor. To fix the situation, move the program to a folder that allows file creation. In general, it is not recommended to place portable versions of programs in system folders such as “Program Files”; use other locations for this purpose, such as “C:\TechEditor”.
3 TechEditor
Q3.1 How do I print or save a report in PDF?
Solutions:
- to print, go to the Edit tab and use one of the commands in the Print group;
- for quick printing: CTRL+P
- to export to PDF: use the Print command from the previous options and select Microsoft PDF Printer or another virtual device that generates PDF files in the list of printers.
Q3.2 How do I start numbering pages in a report from a non-first page?
Solutions:
- add N blank pages to the report and print or export the report to PDF starting from the first (N+1) non-blank page;
- use the Automation > Report Frames command and number the sheets in the desired order using a script.
Q3.3 When I edit a document, TechEditor updates all calculations. How do I turn off automatic calculations?
You can disable automatic calculations and other automation operations in TechEditor by clicking the button on the Quick Access Bar or on the Ribbon tab Automation > Tools > Auto-automation. In this case, you can update the document manually (press F5).

Q3.4 How do I change the units of measurement displayed in the Output section of mathematical objects?
By default, physical quantities are displayed in the SI system. You can set custom units in the project properties (command Project Properties), Calculations tab > Units of Measurement.
